UFOMAMMUT means…

UFO [,ju:ef’ou] abbreviation of U(nidentified) F(lying) O(bject)

MAMMUT [‘mæmmoot] italian for mammoth

The entire word “UFOMAMMUT” should be pronounced in the italian way and it sounds something like “oofomammoot”…

Ufomammut is a power trio formed in 1999 in Italy by Poia (Guitars and fx), Urlo (Bass, vocals and synths) and Vita (Drummer).

Ufomammut is worldwide recognized as the creator of a unique brand of psychedelic sludge. With long songs, droning vocals and massive effects the band combines a monumental riffing attitude with the psychedelia of the more visionary Pink Floyd. Since the beginning, Ufomammut has always been in search of its own sonic way: developing from a primordial acid album like “Godlike Snake”, the band focused on a more mature and evil sound with the second album “Snailking”. The third album “Lucifer Songs”, opened new and unexpected doors, being the result of a mature and tight-knit band willing to experiment whilst maintaining its DNA.

The flaming spatial voyage which made “Snailking” one of the records of the year in 2004 in many specialist magazines and webzines, remained as their core sound, evolving alongside new soundscapes made up of sinister atmospheres and gloomy sounds of vintage electronics. With monolithic and repetitive riffs submerged by a psychedelic and magmatic sound, the following album “Idolum” brought the band to its highest level.

In 2010 the band created “Eve”, their fifth album. “Eve” – comprised of one 45-minute atmospheric track, divided into five distinct movements – acts as a living homage to the first woman on Earth, and the rebellion to her creator for bringing knowledge to Mankind. “Eve” is a new step in the sonic adventure of Ufomammut; another level in the band’s research. Rounding out at an incredibly action-packed 44:44, the album passes through the same massive atmospheres as “Idolum”, layered with mastodonic riffage as heard on the band’s “Snailking” release, yet also bears some of the apparition-like passages the band displayed so well on their “Lucifer Songs” LP, while still formulating a forward-thinking approach to the release.

In ten years the band has played several times around Europe reaching the US West Coast in 2009. Ufomammut has performed at international music festivals like Roadburn, Hellfest, Assymetry and has shared the stage with bands such as Down, Baroness, Lento, Motorpsycho, Orange Goblin and many more. Their live show are supported by the internationally acclaimed video and graphic art of Malleus, a rock artists collective who conjure the entirety of Ufomammut’s visual impact.

The second installment of UFOMAMMUT’s two-part OROalbum series — ORO: Opus Alter — has been previously confirmed for North American release on September 18th via Neurot Recordings, and today more details on this gargantuan LP have arrived. Today the full track listing for this new chapter has been released, as well as the intriguing cover art brought to you once again by the unstoppable force that is the Malleus Art Collective.

Additionally the band have continued their tradition of visually presenting each track from the ORO series with their fans, and today have unveiled the album’s second hymn, “Luxon” in full video style.

View the artwork, “Luxon” video and more epic documentation of the UFOMAMMUT sorcery we have come to expect from the pummeling Italian sludge unit here:

ORO: Opus Alter Track Listing:

1. Oroborus

2. Luxon

3. Sulphurdew

4. Sublime

5. Deityrant

As with all previous UFOMAMMUT albums, the concepts behind ORO are expansive and multi-faceted, mutating the Italian palindrome which translates to “gold” with the Latin translation of “I prey.” ORO explores the concept of knowledge and its power; the magical stream controlled by the human mind to gain control of every single particle of the world surrounding us. ORO is the alchemical process to transform the human fears into pure essence; into Gold. Although ORO’s two chapters will be released months apart from each other, they must be considered as a single track in which the musical themes and the sounds appear and reappear, mutate and evolve, progressively culminating in the crushing final movement. ORO is an alchemic laboratory in which substances are flowing, dividing and blending themselves in ten increments from the alembics and stills, culminating into the creation of Gold.

Opus Alter is going to fulfill and widen the perspective of the new work of UFOMAMMUT. Starting where Opus Primum ended — the album released as well by Neurot in April of this year — Opus Alter evolves deeper into devastatingly powerful new territory, where chaos is metamorphosed by cacophonous sound, until the final notes resonate, knowledge is forged and the band strike gold.
