MELVINS to Release Free EP

Scion A/V has partnered with the Melvins for an EP titled Scion A/V Presents: The Bulls & The Bees, a five-song collection that marks the band's first original material since their 2010 album The Bride Screamed Murder. The release will be available as a free download on Mar. 13 via Scion A/V's website.

The Melvins formed in 1983, kicking off what would be a seismic shift in heavy music and focusing the epicenter of modern music firmly on the Pacific Northwest for the next decade plus. The band blended punk, metal, hard rock to create a new subgenre that has been tagged with a variety of labels including sludge, grunge and doom and won a cult of fans that have yet to waiver some twenty-nine years into the band's career. Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover have been the band's constants (Crover joined in 1984) with Big Business' Jared Warren and Coady Willis joining the band in 2006 for (A) Senile Animal.

"The Melvins have remained such a consistent presence in heavy music," says Jeri Yoshizu, manager of sales promotions for Scion. "It's an honor to have them create an original release for Scion A/V."

Osborne described Scion A/V Presents: The Bulls & The Bees as "amazing in its noisy calm intensity."

Scion A/V Presents: The Bulls & The Bees track listing:

1. The War on Wisdom

2. We Are Doomed

3. Friends Before Larry

4. A Really Long Wait

5. National Hamster

The MELVINS return with a 13-track covers album titled "Everybody Loves Sausages" on April 30 via Ipecac Recordings.

"This record will give people a peak into the kind of things that influence us musically," explains Buzz Osborne. "We REALLY like all of these songs along with the bands who actually wrote this stuff because first and foremost we are HUGE music fans."

In a decidedly MELVINS approach to a covers album, the band not only selected a unique assortment of songs to cover, ranging from ROXY MUSIC's "In Every Dream Home A Heartache" to QUEEN's "Best Friend", they also enlisted several friends to take part, including MUDHONEY's Mark Arm joining them for THE SCIENTISTS' "Set It On Fire" and NEUROSIS' Scott Kelly pitching in on a cover of VENOM's "Warhead".

While the release is billed as a proper MELVINS album (featuring the lineup of Osborne, Dale Crover, Jared Warren and Coady Willis), there are a handful of songs recorded as the MELVINS LITE incarnation of the band (Osborne, Crover and Trevor Dunn): "Female Trouble" (Divine a.k.a. John Waters), "Timothy Leary Lives" (POP-O-PIES) and "Romance By Tales of Terror" (TALES OF TERROR).

The complete track listing with original artist and guest player notation:

01. Warhead (VENOM; Guest: Scott Kelly of NEUROSIS)

02. Best Friend (QUEEN; Guest: Caleb Benjamin of TWEAK BIRD)

03. Black Betty (Original artist unknown)

04. Set It On Fire (THE SCIENTISTS; Guest: Mark Arm)

05. Station To Station (DAVID BOWIE; Guest: JG Thirlwell)

06. Attitude (THE KINKS: Guest: Clem Burke of Blondie)

07. Female Trouble (Divine a.k.a. John Waters)

08. Carpe Diem (THE FUGS)

09. Timothy Leary Lives (POP-O-PIES)

10. In Every Dream Home A Heartache (ROXY MUSIC; Guests: Jello Biafra and Kevin Rutmanis)

11. Romance (TALES OF TERROR)

12. Art School (THE JAM; Guest: Tom Hazelmeyer)

13. Heathen Earth (THROBBING GRISTLE)
