Drummer Richard Christy has issued the following statement regarding his decision to leave ICED EARTH: "Hello, Richard Christy here. I just wanted to say a few things about my decision to leave ICED EARTH. First off, it was the hardest decision I've ever had to make. I spent many sleepless nights wondering what to do before I made the final decision to leave the band. "The reason I'm leaving is because at the end of June I will be auditioning to work for a legendary show that I have been a fan of for many, many years, 'The Howard Stern Show'. Howard Stern's show got me through many years of working at a day job that I didn't really enjoy, my electrician job in Orlando, Florida. "When I heard that I was one of the ten finalists to try out for Stuttering John's job I could not believe it, it was a dream come true to even be considered. I also want to let everyone know that I don't yet have the job, I am just auditioning for the job at the end of June, then the audience will vote for who they want to replace Stuttering John. This made the decision even harder because right now I am living a metal drummer's dream by playing in one of my favorite metal bands, but the week that I am auditioning for Stuttering John's job on Howard Stern conflicts with ICED EARTH's tour schedule. What it comes down to is that if I didn't try out for the job on Howard Stern I would regret it every day for the rest of my life because that would be the greatest job I could ever dream of having. "I really don't look forward to going back to my electrician job after touring, so if I work my ass off and do a good job working for Howard then maybe my dream will come true and I can have a permanent job working for the greatest show in the history of radio. Whatever happens, I will definitely still keep playing music, I've played the drums for twenty years now and I will never stop playing. "Finally I want to say that I love the guys in ICED EARTH and I love the music that I've made with them over the past four years, I am a very lucky guy to have had the chance to tour around the world with one of my favorite metal bands and I'm very sorry for any trouble that I have caused by making this decision. Bobby Jarzombek is my favorite drummer and I am very much looking forward to hearing him play with the band, I know he will do an amazing job. "Thanks and take care." Reunited New York Thrash metal veterans NUCLEAR ASSAULT — vocalist/guitarist John Connelly, bass guitarist Danny Lilker, drummer Glenn Evans and new guitarist Scott Harrington — are putting the finishing touches to their first collection of new material in ten years at the Manchester, NH, studios of Screaming Ferret Wreckords head Timothy Koukos. Former member Erik Burke (guitar) also plays guitar on the album, which is being co-produced by Koukos and Evans. Original songs were contributed by Evans, Connelly and Lilker. Entitled "3rd World Genocide", the album is a rich blend of NUCLEAR ASSAULT's lethal, politically conscious metal and songs showcasing the band's wicked sense of humor. A few surprises are in store for fans too. Tracks set to appear on "3rd World Genocide" include: 01. Price of Freedom 02. 3rd World Genocide 03. Fractured Minds 04. Defiled Innocents 05. Anyone who says metal is dead is out of their head," says Lilker. The band's latest addition, Harrington played with Connelly in a band called NUCLEAR THEORY, which evolved into the RITE BASTARDS. His addition adds greater depth to NUCLEAR ASSAULT. Harrington's musical background suits the band perfectly. Hailing from Connecticut, he has been a mainstay in the East Coast metal and hardcore scene for well over a decade. His friendship with NUCLEAR ASSAULT dates back to when he was a member of seminal thrash upstarts AIMED AGGRESSION and they opened for NUCLEAR ASSAULT numerous times. "I'm coming into this as a longtime fan. I actually learned to play by figuring out riffs on 'Survive' back when I was 12 years old," Harrington says. Back in 1998, Connelly and Harrington worked together in the RITE BASTARDS, which evolved from LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. And Harrington has kept busy since with his band MINUS, which recently changed its name to DENYTHEFALLOUT. "A few years back MINUS did a reworking of NUCLEAR ASSAULT's classic 'Critical Mass' and we were psyched when one night John jumped up and tore it up with us. The crowd went nuts, and we were pumped to have a thrash legend approve of our take on a song he wrote and made famous," remembers Harrington. Several Screaming Ferret labelmates make guest appearances on "3rd World Genocide". Eric Paone of CANDY STRIPER DEATH ORGY contributes backing vocals. Travis Horton of RED RIGHT HAND and DISTRUST also adds backing vocals and plays five-string banjo on "LHA". Koukos, who also plays with RED RIGHT HAND in addition to running the label, adds electric guitar touches and backing vocals as well as five-string banjo and six-string acoustic and lead guitar on "LHA".
