Electronic Substance Abuse was originally born in 2003 in order to attempt to make the transition from one extreme independent music genre to another. Originally, sole member J Blacker was a major contributor to the underground black/death metal scene in England, releasing demo's and touring the stench filled rock club circuit for four years. A decision to walk a variation of the left hand path was taken after being subjected to and seduced by some of the genres peer rhythmical noise acts such as Converter and Sonar. J Blacker proceeded to make an exit from the BM/DM scene in order to develop his own uncompromising style of harsh yet intelligent electronic music.

After playing live alongside many of the genre's finest including 'Scrap edx' and 'Mimetic', a signing was made to Hive Records in early 2006 and the long awaited debut album was released. 'Devotion Discipline and Denial' is dark, suffocating, harsh and seductive Industrial music that twists and churns through beat orientated dance floor noise to breathtakingly dense ambience.

ESA will keep developing, utilising different styles and vocalist genres to blanket under the bleak cover of ESA in order to make darker and harsher electronic music.
