  4. AGENT STEEL: News from Amsterdam Added Wednesday, June 2 Added By: Dreamaster AGENT STEEL guitarist Juan Garcia has issued the following update: "Greetings metalheads? Juan from AGENT STEEL here kickin' it in my second fave city in the world Amsterdam of course. I attended the Rock Hard Festival this past weekend and let me tell you MACHINE HEAD kicked some serious ass....good to see Phil Demmel from VIO-LENCE shredding up the MH tunes!! Other bands that raged were METAL CHURCH with their new vocalist from ROTTWEILLER, and also on second guitar Jay Reynolds from MALICE (talk about old school). Great line-up!! Great new material from the Pacific NorthWesterners. "Alright a quick update from this Internet cafe here in Amsterdam Central. AGENT STEEL will be performing at the Effenaar in Eindhoven, Holland this Friday nite (June 4) at the Dynamo pre-party along with SHADOWS FALL and AFTER ALL...this will be our warm-up show before the Dynamo Open Air on Saturday (June 5). We will be playing a brand new song, and also some old catalog material that we haven't done live for quite sometime. I ran into Kerry King and Dave Lombardo of SLAYER walking around Amsterdam today.....they were getting ready for some rehearsals and I am sure they will crush at Dynamo this weekend. In other AGENT STEEL news we finished up recording three new songs and we will post some mp3's on our website in a week....later."
  5. Posted by Jon Schaffer on Monday, May 17, 2004 at 7:54AM : Greetings! Again I must apologize for the delay in updating you all on the current events of I.E., it’s seems there’s never enough hours in the day. The tour has been an astounding success thus far with most of the shows being sold out; many in record time for Iced Earth. The legion of our passionate and incredibly loyal fans is growing as always and we are extremely grateful. The most significant bit of news to report is that Richard Christy will no longer be with the band after the LA show. He has decided to pursue his comedy career by being a permanent fixture on the Howard Stern show. Though Richard’s timing on informing the band of this was somewhat less than professional, as he informed us of his intentions in the middle of the tour instead of before it started, we do wish him well and all the best for his future. He feels he will be better suited for the comedy world than the music world based on some recent experiences, and he’s probably right, Richard is a very funny and unique guy. Replacing Richard will be Bobby Jarzombek of “Halford” and “Riot” notoriety. Bobby is an excellent drummer and we will be rehearsing in Los Angeles before we start the extension of the U.S. dates. Another thing I would like to address is the BWBK “controversy.” First let me say that at the time of writing this I have not seen anything on Brave Words site or any “official” statement from them concerning the issue at hand. I don’t have a lot of access to the net on tour and when I do it’s for business purposes only, not to see what the obsessive gossipers are ranting about on any given chat room. In fact the only reason I’m addressing this is because it is relevant to my integrity and what this band stands for. The issue at hand is “integrity” in journalism and the serious lack of it. Not only is the world of serious news tainted with bad journalism, the rock world is as well. One example is the way that Blabbermouth.com chose to take one paragraph out of context from an interview with Revolver Magazine. This paragraph in its original context told a very different story from the Blabbermouth report. It went from a funny story that Tim was telling to get a laugh out of people, to a story that insinuated there were problems between him and I. Nothing is further from the truth. What good can this possibly serve? Are these people so pathetic and their lives so lame that they have to make up bullshit to feel relevant? Or is it simply about creating controversy to sell magazines or stories when there is none? And if that’s the case are they not talented enough writers’ to report stories that are true and interesting? The BWBK situation is different but reeks of the same problem. Our “boycott” of the magazine has to do with the way they “improvised” my conversation with the journalist for our feature story. There are people out there who blame the United States for all the bad things in the world just the way the Nazi’s blamed the Jews for everything. The individual I did the interview with was one of those people. My problem is that the way the interview reads has nothing to do with the way the conversation went. Example: The first question out of this “journalists” mouth was “Don’t you think the attacks of 9-11 were warranted?” It was not the big paragraph of text that the “journalist” wrote in the article where he is stating that due to some of the U.S. foreign policies there are those around the world that feel we deserved to be attacked. That was not the way the question was asked. It was “Don’t you feel the attacks of 9-11 were warranted?” The questions got worse from there and any fair minded person that would hear the conversation in its true form, I believe, would be offended as well. I challenged the journalist during our conversation to print the conversation the way it was or that he’d be the one who would have to live with a dishonest conscience and face the consequences. I see the choice that’s been made. Why am I surprised? People with these radical views, no matter the ideology, are rarely honest with themselves let alone anyone else. This “boycott” has nothing to do with the fact that we disagree about certain issues, I believe deeply in free speech, intelligent debate and intelligent dissent. It has nothing to do with the fact that most of the BWBK staff chose to base their opinions of “The Glorious Burden” on politics rather than the music and the history that inspired it. It doesn’t even matter that they tried to patronize us with their little cartoons of Tim and I in Revolutionary War uniforms, which was very cool artwork by the way, kudos to the artist. No…… this comes down to taking a stand against shitty journalism. We’ve been dealing with this kind of thing for years, like all bands do, but this time the seriousness of the underlying issue warranted a more drastic response. Magazines and bands have a business relationship. In order to have a prosperous relationship there should be honesty and integrity involved to maintain such a relationship. All they would have had to do was print the conversation the way it was, and everything would be fine….they made their choice, we made ours….. We wish BWBK no ill will; we just prefer not to do business with them anymore. As for the European tour, it looks as though we will be doing our headline tour in November/December this year. Again, I sincerely apologize to the European fans for the postponement of the tour. I promise it will be worth the wait and we will give you a hell of a show when we get there. You’re the best fans anyone could ask for and we love you!!! Demons & Wizards is coming along slowly but surely. Due to our intense work schedules it’s taken longer than we wanted but it will also be worth the wait. We have about half of the albums basic arrangements done and it is awesome! This is really going to be something special. We hope it will be out in spring of 2005 if things go as planned. That’s all for now people. We look forward to the rest of the shows and the big festivals we’re headlining in Europe. I.E. will be touring a lot in the next year and a half and we have some great things planned for you. As always, thank you for being the best, most loyal and loudest fans any band could ask for! Strength & Honor! Jon

  7. Persuader - Evolution Purgatory April 2004 | Released: 2004, Noise Records | Rating: 5.0/5 | Reviewer: EvilG Since this CD was covered quite effectively last month by our very own Night of The Realm, I won’t go into too much detail with my review. I do however feel compelled to say something about this band since I’ve followed them since their debut demo VISIONS AND DREAMS. Since day one the band was great, but it was on 2000’s THE HUNTER that I lost my mind and considered them the second coming. It’s been four years since THE HUNTER first graced my ears, and even though the band has had some rough times in those years, EVOLUTION PURGATORY was worth the wait. The main evolution that the band has made in the past four years is in the heaviness department. The band can still be called power metal but it’s not happy happy Helloween power metal at all. This is dark and at times thrashy power metal that will win over fans that normally do not listen to melodic stuff. New guitarist Emil Norberg picks things right up where the band’s previous guitarist left off and takes them to new heights. His style is not the same, but still fits the bands sound as he rips it up throughout the album. Everything else about this has also improved: the drumming, song writing, signing, melodies, etc…fucking brilliant, head ripping, jaw dropping, ass kicking POWER metal. The only minor criticism I can possibly make about this album is that Piet Sielck of Iron Savior should probably of stayed off the mic for the backing vocals. I love how the choruses on here sound so huge and full, but in a couple places it sounds like the “Iron Savior” choir are backing up the band. Since I love Iron Savior, this wasn’t a problem for me, but I think they could of done the huge vocal chorus sections with his direction and supervision and not with it sounding like Iron Savior. However, that’s the only possible minor criticism I can make of this entire CD. The songs might not be as immediately catchy as some of their past material, but give it 5-10 listens and that will change and you’ll be singing along with every chorus at least. Some of my favorites on here would be: “Strike Down”, “Sanity Soiled”, and the song that was on our VOLUME I release, “Raise Hell”. However, all songs on here are killer. As always, I still have high hopes for this band. Seeing them signed to Noise Records is satisfying because the band deserves to be heard…global domination is next!!!

  10. ICED EARTH's video for the track "When Eagle Cries (Unplugged)" is available for viewing in streaming media at http://launch.yahoo.com/artist/videos.asp?...rtistID=1012629. "When Eagle Cries (Unplugged)" comes off the group's recently issued four-song single, "The Reckoning (Don't Tread On Me)", which was made available through the band's new label, SPV Records. A full-band version of the song will be included on the group's ninth full-length album, "The Glorious Burden", due on January 13, 2004.
  11. ICED EARTH mainman Jon Schaffer has posted the following message on the band's official web site: "Season's Greetings! "First of all, please accept my apology for the delay in this posting. These last 3 months have been extremely busy and I've been pretty overwhelmed with the workload. However, everything came to a screeching halt a few weeks back when I had lower back surgery. Everything's going well and I'm healing just fine, so in another few weeks I'll be as good as new. "Anyway, there is actually quite a lot to report, so let's get to it! "First, as you all know by now, the CD release has been delayed to early January. I know this has upset many fans and I wasn't happy about it myself, but when the label explained their reasons I couldn't argue with them. Because of the fact that we had to re-record the vocals and re-mix the record it pushed everything back and the label would have had to perform a miracle to do their job properly. It takes time and a lot of organization to release a priority record and they just wanted to do the best job possible, so as I said, I couldn't really argue the point. Believe me, we want you to hear the new tunes ASAP, but sometimes shit happens and we all have to live with it. "It is an absolute pleasure to report that the response so far from journalists that have heard the CD has been very positive. We all expect big things for this record and that should make all I.E. fans proud. [singer] Tim [Owens, ex-JUDAS PRIEST] and I did a 2-week whirlwind promo tour of Europe and it was a great time
