rtist: 3 Title: Wake Pig Release Year: 2004 Style: Genre/Rock, Genre/Progressive, Genre/Alternative Runtime: 47:21 Label: Planet Noise Similar Albums: A Perfect Circle - Thirteenth Step Pineapple Thief - 12 Stories Down The Mars Volta - De-loused in Comatorium Green Carnation - The Quiet Offspring Proto - Proto If there’s anything I like to do, it’s jumping to conclusions. If the president of the United States is a dumbass I will assume that the world is going to end and if an album sounds like the soundtrack to some radically sexy vampire anime flick I will most definitely assume that it is, indeed, vampire music. But putting my idiotic oversimplifications aside, 3’s “Wake Pig” is a wonderfully evocative record. It’s moody, layered, and achieves something most bands have a hard time doing: it tells a story. And surprisingly, it does so without using a lot of flowery language and pseudo-poetic allegories. Instead, it relies on singer Joey Eppard’s amazing, syrupy vocals and instruments that seem to have a life of their own. They’re both independent of Eppard’s intentions while simultaneously complementing his often ambiguous voice. Queen, for example, is one of the album’s more ‘rockier’ tracks, and the guitars and drums make sure of this. Eppard, however, downplays his voice for much of the song, creating the curiously lilting sound characteristic of “Wake Pig.” For some reason, 3 is currently touring with Coheed and Cambria, a band that defies all sense and reason. That odd little tidbit aside, 3’s “Wake Pig” makes me positively pee with excitement. It’s unapologetically catchy but at the same time intelligent. Its songs are diverse enough for people with short attention spans, like Bramfatura, a short acoustic ditty. Most of the record is, however, comprised of otherworldly, instantly addictive opuses like Wake Pig and Dogs of War, two songs that I could listen to on repeat for endlessly nauseating hours. Soul to Sell, with its airy and childlike charm, is another excellent track, and a good sample of the rest of the band’s selection. 3 was immediately appealing to me because of its lack of a statement. I imagine many of you will be taken in for the same reason. While some bands are busy maintaining an image or credentials (many good bands do this, by the way), 3 appears to be concerned with making music with the kind of intensity I’ve only seen so far in Jon Crosby’s work in Vast. If nothing else, Joey Eppard has a remarkable voice that you should make yourself hear at least once. He does everything my choir teacher told me never to do in grade school: sing through your throat to make that cool raspy sound and to never do that hiccupy, stair skipping thing with your voice that makes some reviewers squeal girlishly with delight. “Wake Pig” is a good album, pure and simple. Do yourself a favor and get it. - Chris Kaye Imam ga i stvarno jeste dobar.

The best band of all time, as you all know-- Kent, will perform the first single from their upcoming release, “Du & jag döden”. Tonight, (February 8th), it arrives. The new single from Kent’s next album, “Du & jag döden”. It’ll be played some time during the Swedish Grammies, so tune in to swedish TV4 at 21.00 - 21.55 (that means you can catch Lost exactly at 21.55). The above image is, of course, the cover of the new single. If you look closely, you’ll see that the single contains two B-sides: M Välgärningar och illdåd ( ~ Good deeds and bad deeds) Additionally, my sister tells me that “Max 500” is a bar in Eskilstuna (where Kent used to live), and that you can catch the full song text for Max 500 at the Kent Forum where Joakim Berg himself has posted it.

VEST GODINE Yes, only couple of months after the Louisville deities resurfaced to announce their curatorship of the February 2005 All Tomorrow's Parties hoedown in Camper Sands, England, Slint is announcing plans to spread that love back to the continent that spawned them. The newly reunited post-rock legends are now promising 15 dates total in March, spread out over England, Europe and yes, the United States. After ATP quickly sold out-- despite the fact that, other than Slint, the festival has yet to announce its lineup-- the band quietly added a solo gig March 1st at London's Kentish Town Forum- tema za pedere i dukatlije (random)
