Sa samog dna poslednje strane : TROLL — the Norwegian black metal band founded in 1992 by Stian Arnesen (a.k.a. Nagash; a.k.a. Lex Icon of THE KOVENANT) — has inked a deal with Napalm Records. The group's new album is scheduled for release in the winter. Commented Nagash: "The basic foundation and inspiration for TROLL, besides the devil, has always been the underground. And what soldier doesn't like the smell of napalm in the morning?! Our choice was obvious."

Swedish black metallers DARK FUNERAL entered the Abyss studio on July 10 with producer Peter Tägtgren (HYPOCRISY, PAIN) to begin recording their as-yet-untitled new album. Commented guitarist Lord Ahriman: "While E.M Caligula has been busy in the studio this week, writing and recording the vocals for the new album. The rest of us have had a well-deserved break, and spent some time at home with family and friends. "Tomorrow (Friday, August 21) the whole band will meet up again at the Abyss studio. And to begin with, we will shoot a video for one of the new tracks! "We have found some really sick and suitable locations in the area around the studio. So, besides working on the final stuff for the new record, we will shoot a video between Friday and Sunday. And by the time we are done with the video shoot, we should, hopefully, be ready to begin with the final mix and mastering of our new, yet-untitled masterpiece! "During the coming weekend we will also be visited by international journalists and the mighty tattoo artist Carlos Aguilar (Black Shadows Tattoo and magazine). "More detailed info on the new album; its title among many other things will be announced shortly."
  20. Op, op: Connecticut hardcore/metal masters HATEBREED will release their self-titled new album in North America on September 29 via E1 Music (formerly KOCH Records). The effort will be available on CD, digital download, vinyl and special edition with a bonus 65-minute DVD. The follow-up to 2006's "Supremacy" will be issued on Roadrunner in all other territories. "Hatebreed" track listing: 01. Become The Fuse 02. Not My Master 03. Between Hell And A Heartbeat 04. In Ashes They Shall Reap 05. Hands Of A Dying Man 06. Everyone Bleeds Now 07. No Halos For The Heartless 08. Through The Thorns 09. Every Lasting Scar 10. As Damaged As Me 11. Words Became Untruth 12. Undiminished 13. Merciless Tide 14. Pollution Of The Soul 15. Escape (New Diehard Edit) Commented HATEBREED frontman Jamey Jasta: "This is our fifth studio album and it's a monster! We've survived some pretty rough times and the music shows it. There was no reason to change the recipe that our fans know and love but we added a few brutal new ingredients and we're more than amped on the results. Violence is a given!" Jasta continued: "I feel this new album is a true crossover record in the sense that our metal and hardcore roots are evenly represented throughout it. There's still the fast East Coast tuned-down hardcore that people know and love, yet there are metal influences that shine through on almost every song. The speed is there, which we even kicked up a few notches on some of the songs, but the groove and slower tempos are represented. On 'Hatebreed', there is a violent mix of straight forward anthem headbangers, fast thrashers and brutal breakdown after breakdown. There's something for everyone." The new album was once again produced by Chris "Zeuss" Harris at Planet Z studios in Hadley, Massachusetts and features the return of original guitar player Wayne Lozinak (who recently replaced Sean Martin) alongside core members Chris Beattie (bass), Matt Byrne (drums), Frank Novinec (guitar) and Jasta.

Louise Brown of U.K.'s Terrorizer magazine conducted an interview earlier this week with former GOD SEED/GORGOROTH frontman Gaahl (real name: Kristian Espedal) about his decision to "retire from metal music." A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below. Terrorizer: So, we've all heard by now, officially, that you've left GOD SEED, after weeks of rumors, is that the truth? Gaahl: "Yes, I would say that I've basically retired from metal, or at least metal appearances." Terrorizer: But not from music? Gaahl: "Yes, I would exclude TRELLDOM since that I've never considered that metal either, but I guess for people it does fall into the same genre. Of course that's my lifetime project." Terrorizer: What was the impetus behind this decision, the happenings about the GOD SEED/GORGOROTH came that last year must have taken their toll? Gaahl: "Well, it's been something I've worked on for quite a while in a way, already since the firing of Infernus, basically. I did try to make it work but I just decided to obligate it [GOD SEED] I wasn't sure where it was going, but I decided basically to carry on then. I don't think that [the court case over the same for 'GORGOROTH'] has anything to do with that, it's just that, for me, it's not heartfelt anymore, and if it's not heartfelt, you shouldn't do it. I could have done it and achieved something that I myself wouldn't put myself into and that would be wrong. I wouldn't do anything half-hearted." Terrorizer: But will GOD SEED and King Ov Hell carry on regardless, without you? Gaahl: "I don't know what he does [laughs]. I know that they came with a statement but I gave my interview to Rock Hard [German metal magazine] a month back so I don't know if that's been published yet, so I basically don't know, it's not like I check up anything on the Internet or follow the media so..." Terrorizer: Gaahl, the personality, has become a cult of sorts in a way. You've almost become a larger than life character that extends beyond your music. People seem to be more intersted in Gaahl the man, instead of Gaahl the musician? Has this affected your decision? Gaahl: "I've just been myself. But I noticed this when I lived in Spain for two months and got away from every person in the world, apart from Robin, who of course came with me, no phones or no connections to the outside world. It was a feeling that I needed to be away from absolutely everything and I think that made my decision even easier, even though I was supposed to have the last show before I moved there. I was thinking of having the last show in Finland, but there was circumstances and certain things so we didn't manage to pull that show off so we had to do two GOD SEED concerts in the summer time so otherwise this would be old news by now."
