Mada su pripadnici generacije koja je proslavila rap krajem osamdesetih, zajedno sa Public Enemy, Jungle Brothers se generalno smatraju rodonacelnicima fuzije hip hopa i jazza, zajedno sa De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest i Queen Latifah (takozvana Native Toungues grupa umetnika). Njihovi prvi albumi Straight Out the Jungle (1988) i debi za veliku kucu Warner Brothers - Done By The Forces Of Nature (1989), i dalje sluze kao nepresusan izvor samplova i inspiracije za mnogobrojne hip hop autore sirom sveta. Afrocentricni stihovi i gorke rime Jungle Brothersa nosili su oporije poruke od onih sto je vecina grupa ovog usmerenja u to vreme praktikovala, te su se kljucni clanovi - Mike G i Africa Baby Bam - nasli negde na pola puta izmedju politickog radikalizma Chuck D-ja i jazz/funk/soul miksa manje agresivne brace i sestara. Skrivena poruka o zivotu u velegradu kao zivotu u dzungli i vekiki klupski hit "I'll House You" (u produkciji Todd Terryja), ostali su upamceni kao osnovne vrednosti prvog albuma, da bi se na sledecem JB pojavili u punom poetskom sjaju, sa tekstovima u slavu prava crnaca i posebno crnih zena, citirajuci mnoge ljude, od George Clintona do Isusa, a sve to preko snazne, mastovite muzicke podloge na kojoj su smenjivali disco, africki ritmovi, dobri stari funk samplovi i gospel ukrasi. I mada njihova kasnija izdanja nisu bila tako uspesna, JB su ostali jedan od najcenjenijih "old school" rap grupa, sto je jos jednom potvrdio album VIP iz 2000 godine, na kome im gostuju takva nova velika imena kao sto su Black Eyed Peas. Novi obrt je usledio kad su se nedavno njihovog kataloga dohvatili producenti house i breakbeat muzike. Nijedna rap grupa nije u tako brzom roku dozivela tako veliki broj klupskih remiksa svojih numera, ukljucujuci i objavljivanje posebnog albuma posvecenog njima, belezeci seriju novih hitova sa starim pesmama, koje su ovaj put za dancefloor preuredili najpoznatiji producenti elektronske klupske muzike, sve do samog Fat Boy Slima. Novonastalo interesovanje publike za plesnu muziku sa organskim ritmovima i kakvom-takvom porukom, dovelo je i do novog interesovanja za Jungle Brothers, koji su vec dve godine na nezvanicnoj svetskoj turneji, tokom koje po prvi put dolaze u nas region.
