ARCH ENEMY: Photos From 'My Apocalypse' Video Shoot Posted Online ARCH ENEMY guitarist Michael Amott has posted the following message on the group's official web site: "We shot a video for the song 'My Apocalypse' on Monday. The shoot was smooth and fun. Our necks hurt for a couple of days though… 'Bang that head!!!!' The director, Roger Johansson, tells us it will all look killer when he's done with the editing and special effects. Looking forward to seeing it. Should be on a metal show near you in a few weeks! We also had Paul Smith come out and do interviews for the 'Live Apocalypse' DVD — that was a lot of fun… I just hope we come across like the wonderful human beings that we are…ha ha ha."- Emperor

LAMB OF GOD To Release New Album In August After headlining the Sounds of the Underground festival in June-August 2005, LAMB OF GOD bunkered down in their hometown of Richmond, Virginia to begin the writing process on the follow-up to the band's 2004's release "Ashes of the Wake". "We've taken this process very seriously," notes drummer Chris Adler. "We have been spending 5 or 6 days a week and 6-8 hours a day writing. It's a very intense and productive process that has paid off in a very big way." Following several months of writing, the band took a break in December 2005 to headline a successful European run. "Initially we didn't want to do it because we thought it would interrupt the writing process and leave us, yet again, with less time than we wanted to write the album," says Adler. "In fact, this was the best thing we could have done. Not only were the shows bigger than we anticipated and extremely refreshing after being locked up in our smoky rehearsal hole — but it gave us an opportunity to step away from the material, let it sink in a bit, and return to attack it with a renewed vision and inspiration. This is something we've never had the luxury of doing and it has made a very positive difference.” The band has tapped friend and producer of "Ashes of the Wake", Machine, to handle the production duties for the upcoming effort. Pre-production is scheduled to begin in Richmond on March 13. "Everyone wants to know what the new material is like or have us compare it to something. It's tough to do because when your proud of something you want to say it's better than something else or that it's more of this or that. I don't want to do that — every LAMB OF GOD CD has been a snapshot in time, a puzzle that spelled out who we are as individual musicians and as a band. They each represent a certain amount of experience and ability – and without saying more, we have more of both of those than ever heading into this. We have continued to raise the bar for ourselves in every aspect of what we do, and we are expecting more of ourselves than ever heading into this. We're looking forward to tracking and releasing this intense and very heavy release." The as-yet-untitled release is tentatively expected to be released though Epic Records in late August 2006. The band has also confirmed touring plans both before and after the release. These will be announced shortly.- Impaled Nazarene

TOOL Drummer: 'We Have The Most Retarded President We've Ever Had' Britain's Kerrang! magazine (web site) was granted an exclusive listening session to the just-completed, as yet-untitled fourth TOOL album, which is due out May, and has revealed that anyone expecting the Californian quartet to have gone soft with age willl be sorely disappointed. True to form, TOOL's upcoming opus is a 77-minute, 11-song prog-metal odyssey, packed with plenty of eight minute-plus twisted riff-a-thons, odd-tempo polyrhythms and the bands trademark, eerie interludes. It's also arguably their heaviest, most punishing material since their 1993 breakthrough album "Undertow", according to Kerrang! "We've all been listening to a lot of MESHUGGAH," admitted guitarist Adam Jones. "I see a lot of them in us and us in them, and they really have a very experimental prog side to them. I don't think it was like, 'Okay, right here were going to play like MESHUGGAH,' but more, 'Oh my God, that's come out a MESHUGGAH moment.'" "We have the most retarded President we've ever had, and we're frustrated and that's the reason it's a little heavier this time," drummer Danny Carey told Kerrang! "That level of frustration back like when we first got the band together: we were products of that fucking Reagan thing, we were pissed off and bummed out, we had that angst, and now it's coming forth again: like it or not, we're products of our environment. We're pissed off again." No stranger to weaving social and political frustrations into his tortuously articulate lyrics, singer Maynard James Keenan who released the politically-motivated covers album, "eMOTIVe" with A PERFECT CIRCLE in 2004, has chosen another approach this time around. "I think for me, and this is just personally, the last few years have really been crushing," Keenan told Kerrang! "For me, as an artist, I needed to see on some level if speaking my mind would actually inspire people — you see the sky falling and you feel like you've got to say something. I think of prior TOOL albums 'AEnema' and 'Lateralus', lyrically, I had this idea of trying to share things and push some kind of higher purpose — enlightenment, this global consciousness thing — and everything that's going on nowadays has kind of left me a little disappointed, a little bummed. "So I think on this album I've talked more about my personal stuff, things that I needed to get off my chest," he added. "It's a little cynical and it's almost like coming from a sad place. There's some hope in it, but it's more back to rock and roll basics, just expressing some very big sadness that's from the gut." "This is our blues record, were singing the blues!" joked Carey. "The difference is before, we had that young spunk and we thought we could actually say something and help people realise these things" continued Keenan. "But now, the anger is more of a frustrated anger, and me sitting back and going, 'Okay, I'm going to shut up now, I'm going to stop ranting and trying to be chicken little telling you that the sky is falling, I'm going to just let you guys get hit in the head.'"- After Forever
AFTER FOREVER Part Ways With 'Bad Loser' Label TRANSMISSION RECORDS Dutch female-fronted metal band AFTER FOREVER have parted ways with longtime label Transmission Records. The group's official statement on the matter reads as follows: "Today, record company Transmission send a press release in which several factual errors occur. "Transmission reports that they are putting an end to the cooperation with AFTER FOREVER. This decision however, had earlier already been made by the band by not accepting Transmission's offers to extend the contract or to renew it. "AFTER FOREVER found it was time for a cooperation with a new partner. Most important reasons for this decision are Transmission's approach to promotion and marketing, especially abroad. Also, in the last period of time, Transmission's support and involvement had been minimal. The recent European tour (January) made this clear to us once again with relation to press promotion and local supply of CDs. Also, the two-year-old pictures sent with this latest press release is evidence of no real involvement with the band. "AFTER FOREVER will be playing at several festivals in Belgium, Luxemburg and The Netherlands. In the second half of this year, they will also tour through Latin America again, like they did in 2005. Next to several venues and clubs, the band will perform at three large festivals in Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires and Mexico City. "For our fans, we think it is good to know that several large labels, both national and international, have shown interest in a cooperation with AFTER FOREVER. Therefore, we can only conclude that Transmission is a bad loser."- Sodom

CRUACHAN Complete Work On New Album: Audio Samples Available Irish folk metal band CRUACHAN entered Sun Studios in Dublin on January 17 to begin recording their fifth album, tentatively due later in the year via Greece's Black Lotus Records. Vocalist Keith Fay has issued the following update on the recording sessions: "Yes, we have finished the new album. Jesus Christ, the production on 'Pagan' was shite, wasn't it? Glad to say that this is the best production I have ever been involved with, the sound is top top quality! Many thanks to Gail Liebling [producer] for his endurance. The release date has not been sorted, neither has the title but we will work on this [as soon as possible]. Martin Walkyier [ex-SKYCLAD] was meant to sing on it but had to pull out at the last minute due to personal things at home, I had a chat with him, he feels really bad about it but to be honest he has much more important things to worry about right now. The song he was meant to do is called 'Diarmuid and Grainne'. When I hear it now, I actually think I'm glad he couldn't make it, you'll see why. Maybe we will do something in the future. Next project is the CRUACHAN Scat porn DVD." Click here to listen to a sneak preview MP3 (said to be a "low-quality unmastered sample) of the new album. CRUACHAN's upcoming album will be their first CD for Black Lotus, with whom they inked a deal in June 2005. The band's final release for their previous label, Karmageddon Media, was scheduled to be a reissue of their 1994 "Celtica" demo, featuring unreleased tracks, including "Timmy", which has been performed live at quite a few CRUACHAN shows.- Cult Of Luna

COMMUNIC: New Album Track Listing Revealed Norwegian progressive/power metal band COMMUNIC, who feature in their ranks ex-SCARIOT members Oddleif Stensland (vocals) and Tor Atle Andersen (drums), have completed work on their sophomore album, entitled "Waves of Visual Decay", at Hansen studios in Ribe, Denmark. Commented the band: "The album will be close to an hour long, so the songs are all from 6-10 minutes and contains a good mix of some heavy stuff and a few more mellow songs. There will be some edits of some of the songs since most of them are to long to be played on radio or make a video of, so that's the reason for the edits. No bonus songs this time, as we didn't have time to get it done." "Waves of Visual Decay" track listing: 01. Under a Luminous Sky 02. Frozen Asleep In the Park 03. Watching It All Disappear 04. ISOLE: New Audio Samples Available For Download Audio samples of the new ISOLE tracks "The Beyond" and "Beyond the Black II" have been made available for download at the group's official web site, www.forevermore.se. Both songs will be included on the Swedish doom metal quartet's upcoming 7" vinyl release, "The Beyond", due on March 13 via I Hate Records. The single marks the group's first recording with new drummer Jonas Lindström, who is also a member of the death metal quartet WITHERED BEAUTY and black metal quintet UNDIVINE. The single's title cut, "The Beyond", is described in a press release as "a relatively up-tempo scorcher of a song" while "Beyond the Black II" is said to be "a really slow piece of mournful epic doom." Despite borrowing its title from the debut album track, "Beyond the Black II" doesn’t have much in common with its namesake, being much slower and with only some parts recognizable from its name predecessor. ISOLE are currently recording their as-yet-untitled second album at their own Studio Apocalypse. The CD, which is expected to have a slightly rawer and heavier sound (both production- and music-wise) than the band's 2005 debut, "Forevermore", is expected to be completed by the end of March for a tentative June release.- Kamelot
KAMELOT To Record New Album This Summer American/Norwegian melodic metallers KAMELOT have posted the following message on their official web site: "We are pleased to announce that KAMELOT will be returning to Norway for the Ragnarock Festival in August 2006. "Work continues on KAMELOT's first DVD, 'One Cold Winter's Night'. The [disc] is tentatively [slated] for a fall/winter release and is sure to please all the fans. The incredible concert in Oslo includes special appearance from Simone Simons (EPICA), Sascha Paeth and Snowy Shaw, plus many more! "Next album news! In a recent phone call, guitarist Thomas Youngblood stated, 'We are now in full writing mode for the follow-up to 'The Black Halo'. There are tons of ideas and we are very excited about what we are coming up with. We hope to be in Germany this summer recording the next album and once again we will have Sascha and Miro on board to produce the songs.' "Many more live appearances are being planned including a possible North American tour."- Hammerfall
HAMMERFALL To Release New Album In October HAMMERFALL guitarist Oscar Dronjak has posted the following message on the group's official web site: "The Winter Olympics 2006 are over, and it ended on a high note for us: Sweden beat Finland 3-2 in the ice-hockey final, in a very exciting and nerve-racking game. Actually, the Finns were the most impressive team in this tournament, winning every match decisively until the final round and easily beating the second best playing team this year, Russia, in the semi-finals. But the Swedes played a beautiful game on the ice, cutting the Finns short on almost every occasion. I know our neighbors in the east (or west, for that matter…) won't agree with me, but it was a most fitting end to the XXth games, with Sweden winning their seventh (!) gold medal. Congratulations to everyone who made this the by far most succcessful Winter Olympics for our nation. And thanks for the great memories! I have only one question: what am I supposed to fill my days with now? :-) "Well, maybe writing a little music would be a good start. Actually, we have more or less completed half the songs for the album, scheduled to be released in the end of October this year. I have a very good feeling about this, the music so far is very varied and, I think, of high quality. My gut tells me we will be building on the foundation of 'Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken' and expanding the horizons of what is HAMMERFALL even further. You all will find out eventually. I will post more news on this as we go, with some song titles and such in the coming months. "The new issue of Sweden Rock magazine features an extensive eight-page tour diary I wrote on the STRATOVARIUS/HAMMERFALL tour last fall, and Anders [Johansson, drums] have written something as well which will be published in various Metal Hammers around Europe. Look them up if you want an insight in life on the road, I think you’ll find the reading both amusing and interesting."- Enslaved
"ENSLAVED has just returned to base in Bergen, after a hectic weekend in the wilderness. They recorded material for two videos to support their coming 'Ruun' album (album due to be released May 8th, 2006). The first video, 'Path to Vanir', will be released before the end of March 2006, while follow-up video, 'Essence', will be out there during mid-summer."- Mercenary
MERCENARY: First Two Albums To Be Re-Released Danish metallers MERCENARY will have their first two albums re-released through Karmageddon Media. "First Breath" (1998) and "Everblack" (2002) were both remastered to keep up with today's sound standard and the reissue of "Everblack" also includes the bonus track "Nothing's What It Seems" (which was previously available on the digipack version only). MERCENARY's as-yet-untitled fifth full-length album will be recorded in March and May at Hansen studios in Ribe, Denmark with producer Jacob Hansen (HATESPHERE, INVOCATOR, RAUNCHY). A late summer release via Century Media Records is expected.- Misery Index
MISERY INDEX: New Album Title, Track Listing Revealed MISERY INDEX has set "Discordia" as the title of their forthcoming Relapse Records debut. "Discordia" is scheduled for a May 16 release and will feature ten new tracks from the Baltimore-based quartet. The track listing is as follows: 01. Unmarked Graves 02. Conquistadores 03. Outsourcing Jehovah 04. Breathing Pestilence 05. Meet Reality 06. Sensory Deprivation 07. The Meduse Stare 08. Dystopian Nightmares 09. Discordia 10. Pandemican The LP and Japanese CD pressings of "Discordia" will include as a bonus track a cover of NASUM's "Digging In". The band's energetic and articulate music has been pushing the boundaries of metal, hardcore and punk since its spring 2001 inception, and in what has become MISERY INDEX's calling card, "Discordia" promises to deliver lyrics as weighty and confrontational as their music is deadly. Bassist/vocalist Jason Netherton (the quartet is rounded out by drummer Adam Jarvis and guitarists John "Sparky" Voyles and Mark Kloeppel) explains "Discordia"'s general lyrical approach: "The central theme of 'Discordia' revolves around a critical approach to everyday life in our 'modern' world," he said. "The lyrics are critical but at the same time hopeful. We hope that in looking at the world as it REALLY is, without painting any happy face on that which aches and suffers for change, we can sing these songs in confidence of something that matters and of something that screams for life in a mediated framework that consistently presents death as "the way of life" in the world outside the comfortable borders of the West, as well as in our own nation."- Anathema
ANATHEMA To Release New Music Via iTunes British metallers ANATHEMA will release three new songs on April 18 via iTunes to coincide with their tour supporting Finnish goth rockers H.I.M. The three tracks that will be released are as follows: 01. One Day 02. Everything 03. Angels Walk Among Us ANATHEMA are currently unsigned as a result of having been dropped by BMG/Zomba after their previous label, Music For Nations, was folded into parent company Zomba Records Group (the world's largest independent music group). Commented the group in a posting on their web site: "As the band is without a record deal and without any financial backing to record an album, we respectfully ask all our fans to go to the iTunes site and pay for the songs. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT as you will be directly supporting the band at a difficult time, and your money will go towards paying for ANATHEMA to record an album this year. We need your help. If you want to be a true fan and help the band directly, instead of helping record companies... do not copy these songs from your friends! Go to iTunes on April 18th and buy them. The price is very cheap!" As previously reported, ANATHEMA mastermind Daniel Cavanagh will undertake a solo, acoustic Norwegian tour in March. His set will feature mainly ANATHEMA classics past and present, plus various cover versions. The shows will be stripped down, featuring Danny with just a guitar a keyboard/piano in the most imtimate possible setting. The dates are as follows: Mar. 16 - Bergen, NOR @ Garage Mar. 17 - Trondheim, NOR @ Kafe Larssen Mar. 18 - Oslo, NOR @ Tut og Kjør ANATHEMA's previously announced U.K./Irish tour as the support act for H.I.M. — originally scheduled for January — has been postponed until April. - Arch Enemy
