  1. TOOL: New Album To Arrive In May? According to both Tower Records Japan and HMV Japan, the new TOOL album is scheduled for release in Japan on May 10. However, the band and their label have yet to confirm this information or announce a release date for any of the other territories. Even though the members of TOOL have already begun giving press interviews to promote the new CD, no official album title or track listing has yet been announced. Recent Internet rumors have suggested that TOOL's first CD since 2001's "Lateralus" will be named "Aldaraia" and a target U.S. release date of May 2 was given for the effort, but these reports have yet to be corroborated by an official source.

KORPIKLAANI: New Album Samples Posted Online A medley of audio clips from Finnish folk metallers KORPIKLAANI's upcoming third album, entitled "Tales Along This Road", has been made available at this location. As previously reported, Napalm Records has set an April 21 European release date for "Tales Along This Road". A new-album listening session and a "meet-and-greet party" will be held before every gig on the band's upcoming "Tales along This Tour", which is set to kick off March 23 in Tampere, Finland.

BEYOND TWILIGHT Announce Release Date For 'For The Love Of Art And The Making' Danish/Swedish prog-metallers BEYOND TWILIGHT will release their new album, "For The Love Of Art And The Making", on April 21. The recording sessions for the CD took place in three different studios: Hansen Studios in Ribe, Denmark with Jacob Hansen, Zierler's Dungeon and Jailhouse Studio with Tommy Hansen. "Be sure to expect the most unique piece of music in the band's history," the group write on their web site. "One ongoing composition containing 43 sections. The sections are all pieces of a puzzle, which you, the listener can put together to find the secrets of this complex and ambitious work. The album have a meaning/lifeline from start to end but if you set your CD player on shuffle new doors to the meaning of the album will open for you. To be able to understand the dephts and complexity of the album you'll have to listen to it more than a few times."

VOIVOD New Album Title Revealed Canada's pioneering metal band VOIVOD have set "Katorz" as the title of their forthcoming album, due out late spring on The End Records in North America and Nuclear Blast Records in Europe. "Katorz" has been the working title for the new CD since at least the spring of 2005, according to previously published reports. VOIVOD, who just finished mixing the album with producer Glen Robinson (ANNIHILATOR, TEA PARTY, GWAR) at Multisons studio in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, are now mastering the album in New York. In order to record "Katorz", drummer Michael "Away" Langevin, singer Denis "Snake" Belanger and bassist Jason "Jasonic" Newsted utilized all of the guitar parts that Piggy had recorded for the record on his laptop with ProTools before his death. Artwork and a full track-listing for the album will be released in the coming weeks.
  9. NECROPHAGIST Announce New Guitarist German death metallers NECROPHAGIST have announced the addition of Helsinki, Finland-based guitarist Sami Raatikainen (CODEON) to the group's ranks. "We look forward to working together with an extremely talented fella, as we never met someone working faster or harder before," the band write in a statement. "We would also like to thank the applicants that didn't get the spot, you guys have done a great job! But in the end, there can only be one. Thank you all!" Raatikainen joins NECROPHAGIST as the replacement for Christian Münzner, who left the band earlier in the month due to "scheduling conflicts."
  10. ATHEIST: Prague Date Announced Seminal technical metal pioneers ATHEIST have lined up a headlining show in Prague, Czech Republic on August 3. The group's itinerary is now shaping up as follows: Jul. 14-15 - Bloodstock Open Air at Catton Hall, Walton On Trent - Derbyshire, UK Jul. 16-17 - Evolution Festival - Brescia, ITA Aug. 03 - Black Pes Music Bar - Prague, CZR Aug. 3-5 - Wacken Open Air - Wacken, GER Aug. 23-26 - Hole - The Sky Festival - Bergen, NOR ATHEIST guitarist/vocalist Kelly Shaefer has reassembled what is widely considered the band's classic recording lineup (Shaefer, guitarist Rand Burkey, bassist Tony Choy, and drummer Steven Flynn) for several exclusive festival performances, including Italy's Evolution Festival and Germany's Wacken Open Air. ATHEIST has recently had its wildly-influential catalog (1988's "Piece of Time", 1993's "Elements", and the 1991's legendary "Unquestionable Presence") reissued internationally via Relapse Records. Additionally, "Unquestionable Presence" was recently featured in Decibel magazine as part of its ongoing Hall of Fame feature. The Hall of Fame feature highlights influential and pivotal releases in metal history, and "Unquestionable Presence" joins of ranks of previously profiled classics such as SLAYER's "Reign In Blood", SEPULTURA's "Roots", and AT THE GATES' "Slaughter of the Soul", among others.
  11. KAMPFAR Complete Work On New Album Norwegian old-school black metallers KAMPFAR have completed work on their third full-length album, "Kvass", due later in the year via Napalm Records. Gaman Av Drømmer KAMPFAR's second full-length album, "Fra underverdenen" ("From the underworld") was released in 1999 via Hammerheart Records.
  12. ANCIENT RITES To Release 'Rubicon' In May Belgian metallers ANCIENT RITES will release their new album, entitled "Rubicon", on May 15 via Season of Mist. The follow-up to 2001's "Dim Carcosa" was recorded at the Spacelab Studio in Germany under the watchful eye of veteran ANCIENT RITES producers Oliver Phillips and Christian Moos. "Rubicon" track listing: 01. Crusade 02. Templar 03. Mithras 04. Thermopylae 05. Rubicon 06. Invictus 07. Ypres 08. Galilean 09. Cheruscan 10. Brabantia ANCIENT RITES will play a CD-release gig sometime in May. The date and venue will be confirmed soon. Following the album's release, ANCIENT RITES — now a septet since the return of former members Domingo Smets and Raf Jansen in 2004 — will once again play live to spread their new music. Concerts all over Europe and the U.K. are currently being negotiated and arranged, so expect the band to be out there in full blast later in the year.

The current lineup of POISONBLACK — Ville Laihiala (vocals, guitar, formerly of SENTENCED), Janne Markus (guitar), Marco Sneck (keyboards), Antti Remes (bass) and Tarmo Kanerva (drums) — are scheduled to perform at Club Teatria in Oulu, Finland on April 1. Also appearing on the bill will be REFLEXION. POISONBLACK are currently working on their sophomore CD, tentatively due later in the year spring via Century Media Records. Laihiala had previously stated about the new album's musical direction: "The new one has the same spirit and theme that was on [the debut album, 'Escapextacy'], but presented with a lot more dirtier and rougher sounds without forgetting the melodies," he said. "But if you are waiting for a soft goth-rock album you'll be surprised."

MNEMIC: New Album To Be Co-Produced By FEAR FACTORY Guitarist Danish modern metallers MNEMIC will enter ex-STONE TEMPLE PILOTS drummer Eric Kretz's Bomb Shelter studios in Los Angeles, California in May with producers Shaun Tingvolt (STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, LAMB OF GOD) and Christian Olde Wolbers (FEAR FACTORY) to begin recording their third album for a late 2006 release via Nuclear Blast Records. Mixing duties will be handled by Andy Sneap (MACHINE HEAD, EXODUS, ARCH ENEMY, NEVERMORE) at his Backstage Studios in Derbyshire, U.K.

Also on the TIAMAT front, the band have been confirmed to headline the Hard Rock Laager festival, set to take place June 30 – July 1 in Estonia.

AMON AMARTH: 'Wrath Of The Norsemen' DVD Details Revealed Metal Blade Records has released the details of the upcoming AMON AMARTH DVD, "Wrath of the Norsemen", due in Europe on April 24 (April 21 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland). The three-disc set will be released in a deluxe 10-page digipack with special gold-laminated slipcase. The main body of the DVD is the Cologne show from last year — filmed with 11 cameras, this was the longest show AMON AMARTH have ever played (23 songs!). Bonus footage includes interviews, behind-the-scenes of the DVD recording and other stuff filmed around the Cologne show. Discs 2 and 3 feature professionally filmed shows from Summer Breeze 2005, the Metal Blade Rrroooaaarrr 2005 (a show with a really unusual setlist!), Wacken Open Air 2004 and the release show for "Fate of Norns" in Ludwigsburg (Germany) in 2004.
