Мени је, често тај UG само UGly али ово је стварно нешто друго, све што ваља у black металу - има га овде али на неки други начин. То је one-man бенд, чини га Nerrath (Niklas Thiele) и албум је сасвим опуштен, ствари трају по 8-9 минута и лик нас вози кроз разне музичке и духовне пределе, без журбе и трке али је опет темпо солидно висок. Интересантно, заиста. Мислим, чак су и ови педери на http://metal-archives.com/ албуму дали 85% и 90%, за овакав анонимни бенд - то је као 100%. What sets this Finnish duo apart from other neo folk bands out there is the fact that they don’t use any acoustic guitars at all. Instead they use the traditional Finnish instrument called the Kantele. The Kantele is over 2000 years old, and belongs to the horizontal harp family and can have anywhere from five strings to thirty strings on it (The one used in Nest has only fifteen though). The main thing with this album is the atmosphere, and quite frankly it has one of the best I’ve ever felt before. When listening to this album I can close my eyes and picture myself walking through a cold dark forest. I happen to be very fond of forests and the feelings I get when I walk through them are simply indescribably. It’s one of the few places in this world where I feel safe and at complete peace. So the fact that Nest is able to recapture this feeling is greatly admirable. The band also utilizes a variety of samples, which enhances the music even further. From birds chirping to water steadily running along a stream, all of this can be found within the album. Apart from the stunning atmosphere the music itself is nothing short of brilliance. A. Tolonen’s Kantele work is comprehensive and his playing will instantly catch your attention with its breathtaking sound. I especially admire his work on the song ‘Renewal.’ Parts of this song are very folky and to put it simple its just pure bliss. His partner T. Saxell handles the vocals, which are brief but still serve as an important characteristic. Rather than actually singing his vocals are softly spoken spooky whispers. It’s as if the trees that surround you have come to life and are talking to you as you embark on your journey through their kingdom. Although I’m not sure who performed the synth work all I can say is it’s of high caliber as well. The synths serve to further enhance this immaculate folky/woodsy sound and they do it grandly. Taken as a whole this is one of the most exhilarating and imaginative releases to come my way in a long time. This band is on the right trail to becoming one of the most exciting and original folk bands out there today.
