Christos Achilléos 1947-2021
It's with sadness we note the passing of British illustrator, painter and concept artist Christos Achilléos. Born in Cyprus, Chris moved to London in the mid-1950s with his mother and siblings shortly after his father died. After attending the Hornsey College of Art, Achilleos became best known for his paintings of Amazons, dragons and ancient civilizations and mythology. His works were featured on hundreds of fantasy book covers in the 1970s and '80s, including novels by Robert E. Howard, Edgar Rice Burroughs and Michael Moorcock. Achilléos also became well known for his movie poster for the animated film "Heavy Metal." His art has been collected in four books over the years; the first, "Beauty and the Beast," sold over 100,000 copies (which is a significant number for any art book by anyone) and was translated into four languages. Our deepest sympathies to Chris' family and friends.
