Nihil (cocophanous rec) Ben Ryan (COF) The pic was taken by me outside the 1in12 club in Bradford after the last show (of which there were only 4) This pic only surfaced a few months back,id taken it with Darryl Grants camera. some trivia for you also. The white van you see. Thats the Emperor tour bus! The drum kit you will see in the Emperor Rehearsal video from back then is Darryls The dancer seen on the photos and video from the London show is Andrea Meyer (who went on to marry Samoth the following year) Mark Allen played synth on the Emperor gigs of that year,he was a friend of Lee Barretts. Despite countless posts on youtube,i can assure you that its TCHORT and certainly not MORTIIS on bass. Ihsahn set his entire head on fire 2 days before the first gig while practicing fire breathing in Lee Barretts back yard. He was using vodka and it was going nowhere, i suggested the can of lighter fluid in the kitchen...the result was a Simon Weston style inferno.The photos from those gigs show a huge red mark on his face,it was blistered to hell.Fortunatley Samoth was holding a glass of water and he poured it over his head.Unfortunatley i was not filming this as it would of become a youtube classic ;-) (but seriously that was the most frightening thing ive ever witnessed and something im sure he will never forget..just ask him) The first gig of this tour was supposed to be Emperor opening up for Deicide, it was cancelled 2 days before...(the day of the rehearsal filming) the crowd was expected to be close to 2000 and was ofcourse a huge dissapointment. Faust was drunk every day and telling everyone about his murder. Crazy guy ;-) Emperor were wanting to go to a farm to kill a sheep with a bowie knife to get blood for the stageshow.We talked em out of it. Christian stoner band MOURN opened up for the tour in London.Their opening line was "EMPEROR BROKE OUR CROSS ,WE DONT WORSHIP SATAN!"...it was however Dani Filth who snapped it...ha ha! For some reason Sue (the junkie from Eastenders) was at the gig with Mourn. Emperor were confronted by some leftist morons after the Bradford gig who were just wanting to cause trouble.(Anyone who got Samoths autograph that week will notice a swastika in his signature ;-)(this was before BM became PC remember) Cradle of Filth were in talks to play with Mayhem during this week (ofcourse it was only a month later that all hell broke loose so those gigs never even got booked)..this would of been EURONYMOUS/BLACKTHORN/HELLHAMMER/ATTILA and VARG VIKERNES had the gigs of happened! Nick Barker had just left a death metal band called MONOLITH who recorded an exellent album (TALES OF THE MACABRE) that never got released.That album was produced by Elliot Kennedy (google him) Emperor guys were just 19, Ihsahn was just 17.
